On 25 March 2021, the UK Government announced further measures targeting the Myanmar regime, adding Myanmar Economic Holdings Public Company Ltd (MEHL) to the Global Human Rights financial sanctions regime for its alleged involvement in human rights violations against the Rohingya. On 17 May 2016, the US Treasury Departmentās Office of Foreign Assets Control (āOFACā) announced amendments to the Burmese Sanctions Regulations (āBSRā), 31 C.F.R. Part 537, by issuing new and amending existing general licenses intended to, support trade with Burma, facilitate the movement of goods within Burma, allow most transactions involving designated Burmese financial institutions, and allow certain transactions related to āU.S. Personsā (defined below) residing in Burma.
