The Council of the EU announced today that it has agreed to renew the EU sanctions against Crimea and Sevastopol until 23 June 2016, and reemphasised in the press release that the EU continues to condemn the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol to Russia.Ā The implementing legislation has yet to be published.

On 5 March 2015, it was announced that the European Council has extended the pre-existing restrictive measures against eighteen individuals. These individuals, including the former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich, have been subject to investigations regarding the misappropriation of Ukrainian state funds. Further to our previous blog post, the EU has published the names of an additional 19 individuals and nine entities who are designated with effect from today for their involvement in action against Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence. The new DPs are listed in the Annex to Council Implementing Regulation (EU) 2015/240.
