Following the announcement of a second phase of economic sanctions against Russia on Monday, Finland and a few other EU Member States are reported to have insisted on a delay in their implementation in order to assess whether the ceasefire in Ukraine (agreed last Friday) is holding.  According to press reports, EU ambassadors are meeting today (Wednesday 10 September) to reassess the ceasefire, but it is unclear whether or not a decision will be taken at this meeting to implement this second package of sanctions or to suspend them, according to Maja Kocijancic, the spokeswoman for the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Lady Ashton.
