On December 18, 2014, the President signed into law the Venezuela Defense of Human Rights and Civil Society Act of 2014 (described in our recent post) and Ukraine Freedom Support Act of 2014 (“UFSA”) (described in our recent post).  In a statement on the same day, President Obama said that this law “does not signal a change in the Administration’s sanctions policy” and that his “Administration does not intend to impose sanctions under this law, but the [UFSA] gives the Administration additional authorities that could be utilized, if circumstances warranted.”
